APECAFEQ Project

The association APECAFEQ was established in March 1996. Currently, it has a total of 434 members. One hundred and five (105) are women and seventeen (17) are organic coffee producers. In the last harvest, the association produced a total of 885,000 pounds of parchment coffee. APECAFEQ has an approved development plan for three years (2018-2020). The goal is the continuous improvement of coffee production, with training on better practices and followups. APECAFEQ has been working on gender inclusion, as well as in raising awareness and being friendly to the environment.

Project

Water Resource Management (WRM) is Expocafé's sustainability initiative, which targets three key sustainability goals: economic, environmental and social, through projects that include working with coffee grower communities on adoption of approaches and habits that lead to reduced and adequate use of water in coffee production and daily activities. Coffees labeled with the WRM's blue coffee bean logo are guaranteed to be produced following responsible water management methods. At the same time, WRM works on supporting and strengthening those coffee production aspects that impact crop productivity (soil analysis, plant density, age and fertilization), which are directly related with the coffee grower's income. In parallel, the initiative brings training aimed at social improvement, through training on key community, business and coffee topics.
